The Secret Garden at the Rectory on Princess Street, Old Town Alexandria, VA

The Secret Garden at the Rectory on Princess street, Old Town Alexandria, is an enchanting outdoor performance space located in the heart of historic Alexandria, Virginia. Surrounded by lush greenery and beautifully maintained gardens, this intimate venue offers a unique setting for vocalists and musicians to present their artistry.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Classical Movements began hosting small concerts here, making it one of the first venues to reopen for live performances. This initiative provided vital artistic engagement when many organizations were still hesitant to resume in-person events. As noted by Patrick D. McCoy, “it would be safe to say Classical Movements were the very first to begin presenting live concerts during the pandemic, when others were still quite reluctant to do so.”

The garden concerts have since gained national recognition, becoming a beacon of hope for performers and audiences alike, as highlighted in various newspaper articles that celebrate the venue’s role in reviving live music during challenging times.

The Secret Garden has since hosted several successful scenes and productions of Mozart’s operas as part of the Prague Summer Nights program, further enhancing its reputation as a vibrant hub for classical music. These “home-based” performances have provided a unique opportunity for performers to showcase their talents in an intimate setting, attracting enthusiastic audiences and critical acclaim. As part of the new PSN Plus program, these cherished performances will continue to flourish, offering accomplished alumni the chance to further their careers in a captivating and supportive environment.
